Through Their Voices

The goal of this project is to collect and document oral histories of women's birthing experiences in Atlanta. By capturing these stories, we aim to shed light on the impact of maternal health outcomes and experiences in the city. Through in-depth interviews and analysis, we seek to understand the challenges and successes women face during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods. The information gathered will be used to identify gaps in the healthcare system and inform policy changes for improved maternal health outcome.

Honoring Voices, Advancing Change

Over the past several months, this initiative has continued to grow through intentional storytelling and portraiture that uplifts birthing voices with care and authenticity. The team has led trauma-informed, participant-guided story sessions and partnered with an artist and photographer to create portraits that reflect dignity, strength, and agency. Participants remain in control of how their experiences are shared, ensuring each story is represented with honesty and respect.

The project has also strengthened community partnerships to support an affirming and culturally responsive process. With plans underway for a public showcase and continued expansion into education and advocacy spaces, the work is steadily building momentum.

Watch below to view our progress and see the stories taking shape.
